We offer Insurance Inspection Services For Your Florida Home

Wind Mitigation and 4-Point home inspections are often required by homeowner’s insurance companies. The primary reason an insurance company will request an inspection on your Florida home is to make sure your policy accurately reflects your property’s features.

When purchasing a new home, a four-point inspection is sometimes a necessity in order to get a new homeowners insurance policy or to renew a policy that you already have. Insurance companies often require the addition 4-Point Report for homes that were built prior to 1989.

One of the benefits of receiving a Wind Mitigation inspection is identifying the potential insurance savings available to you based on the current attributes of your home. Many homeowners insurance companies provide discounts or credits for construction features that have proven to reduce damage from hurricanes, such as:
• Hurricane protection on all windows and exterior doors, such as shutters or impact resistant windows and garage doors
• A hip roof (sloped on all sides like a pyramid)
• Roof to wall connections that are reinforced. Discounts will vary depending on the type of connection such as toe nail, clips or single wrap straps.
• Florida Building Code-approved roof coverings. Discounts will vary depending on the type of covering such as asphalt shingle, concrete tile or metal.

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, OIR-1802 Windstorm Inspection Form is valid for up to 5 years provided no material changes have been made to the structure or is superseded by a revised windstorm inspection form.

Once your inspection is completed and submitted to your homeowner’s insurance company they can advise which credits you are eligible for. Talk to your trusted Insurance Agent on what discounts may apply!

Wind Mitigation Inspection: $94.95

A wind mitigation inspection verifies a home’s reinforced and wind resistant features to estimate how well that home would hold up in the event of strong or hurricane force winds. A wind mitigation inspection helps an Insurance company verify construction features that have been shown to reduce losses in high wind scenarios. This inspection is especially important for Florida-based insurance companies who are looking to properly price premiums for the homes they insure

For a consumer, the results of a wind-mitigation inspection may result in a decreased premium for homeowners insurance if your home has features that would help protect it from damage in the event of a high wind event. Typically, the safer and stronger your home is, the lower your premium for homeowners insurance could be.

Even more importantly, this inspection report can detail areas of your home that you can improve to better withstand a weather event in our hurricane-prone state of Florida.

The inspection will include a review of the following:

  • Age of the home

  • Construction type

  • Age of the roof

    • Make sure you have a copy of permit information if you’ve had your roof replaced.

  • Roofing material

  • Shape of the roof

  • How the roof deck is attached to the trusses and then trusses to the exterior walls

    • This part of the assessment reviews how the shingles are secured to the roof deck and how the roof deck is secured the truss/rafters. The length and quantity/spacing of the nails is the critical factor in potential savings on your homeowners insurance.

  • Secondary water resistance

    • Protection against leaks if shingles are blown off

  • Any opening protection features

    • Hurricane Impact rated windows, shutters, and garage/pedestrian entry doors
